Touch the Cross
This past Sunday, there was someting special held before the worship service. The church's new Children's Ministry Director, Melinda Jones, put together a "Touch the Cross" ceremony for the children of FPC. The cross that was on the steeple from the downtown facility will be a part of the new church buidling. After telling the story of the downtown facility being destroyed by Katrina, these children (who probably do not remember that cross or steeple) had the opportunity to "touch the cross." This will give these children the opportunity to look back and see that they were a part of the history of our church.

Construction update and prayer requests
As you can see from the pictures that have been posted over the last couple of weeks, things are moving quickly. Each time I visit the site, there are many cars in the lot and I see something new.
As far as flooring, the only areas that are to be completed are carpeting in the office suite, hardwood flooring on the stage, and flooring in the choir robing room behind the stage. The painters are beginning to touch up the walls. Baseboards and some other trim work should be completed next week. Stucco is being applied on the covered walkway area and "bell tower." The curbing around the parking lot and driveways are being completed as well. It is exciting to see.
There are a few items to bring to your attention for prayer. One is the parking lot. I must say, that this is a strange request, but please pray for NO rain. Usually the prayer is for rain! There needs to be about 2 weeks of dry weather to finish the parking lot. So, again, please pray for the rain to hold off for a couple of weeks. Also, as you may know, we have had to commit to build the gymnasium in stages. Initially, we had enough funding to have the basic structure built. Then, we were blessed to be able to move to Stage 2 of the gym which included lighting, heating and A/C. The final stage includes the completed gym - walls around restrooms, storage/kitchenette area, basketball goals, striping for gym floor, finishes on walls, etc. At this current time we are $150,000 short of this final stage. The Lord has been so faithful at providing for us so far and we know He is capable of providing. Please pray for funding for this final stage. In addition to these 2 items, please pray for patience of the staff and others involved as we tend to the minute details of finishing a construction project.
Please check back for a more detailed timeline of a prayer walk, staff moving in, first service, etc.
Your prayers are greatly coveted.
